U.S.-Born Children Ask President to Stop Deporting Their Parents

Mar 19, 2014 8:47:36 AM / by Staff Attorney

According to the former director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, nearly 410,000 undocumented immigrants were deported from the United States in 2012. Many of the people deported have families that they have been forced to leave behind here in the United States. Under current immigration laws, parents of U.S.-born children can be separated from their children.

According to an NBC Los Angeles news report, U.S.-born children of undocumented parents are calling on President Barack Obama to stop deporting their parents. Under the Obama Administration, there have been over two million deportations, including 400,000 in 2013. That means millions of families have been ripped apart as politicians debate whether or not to pass immigration reform. It is doubtful that immigration reform will pass this year and there is no sign that deportations will slow down as the debate rages on.

If you or a loved one is facing deportation, it is important to stay calm. You may be able to delay or prevent deportation through waivers, asylum, or a number of other defenses. You will need an experienced immigration attorney to review the specifics of your case and to help keep you in Los Angeles.

You can face deportation for:

  • Violating the terms of your visa
  • Helping undocumented foreigners enter the country
  • Failing to have your conditional resident status removed
  • Committing marriage fraud
  • Getting convicted for multiple crimes of moral turpitude
  • Being convicted of an aggravated felony
  • Entering the country without a visa

Even if the authorities believe they have a solid case against you, you have the right to defend your case in court. You may be able to receive a waiver of legal forgiveness or a visa to stay in the country. As long as the authorities continue to deport foreigners at an alarming rate, anyone who has entered the country illegally is at risk of being deported. A skilled and knowledgeable Los Angeles deportation defense lawyer can help you understand your legal rights and options.
